Challenges, obstacles, and opportunities for sustainable development in General Aviation and Private Pilot Training
09 September 2022
This 2022 mixed-methods study presented at the University of Gävle investigated challenges, obstacles, and opportunities for sustainable development in General Aviation and Private Pilot Training. A mixed-methods approach was employed comprising eight expert interviews and a representative survey (n=427) with pertinent GA stakeholders. The findings show that most GA stakeholders are concerned about sustainable development. Not one major challenge, but a plethora of sustainability challenges was identified, e.g., leaded AVGAS, bureaucracy/overregulation, nationalism, etc. Likewise, the stakeholder’s views reflected not one, but a mix of potential measures, such as the use of unleaded AVGAS, syn- and biofuels, and electric planes going along with PPL/LAPL(A) syllabus adjustments.
